This project will be about the National Organization for Women and the fight for the Equal Rights Amendment. This topic will be a great way to know the background of how women fought for their rights and how they achieved them. This will be a great way to find out how gender "women" have established their equal rights. Women's rights are really important in today's society, so this will be a great way to learn more about how women achieved equal rights. Women's rights didn't just appear one day, they had to fight for what they thought was right. The first step of it all was the 19th amendment, this amendment allowed women to vote at the age of 18. After the 19th Amendment women began to gain more freedom, all thanks to Alice Paul, who was a suffragist leader and founder of the National Woman's Party. He had one goal, which was to have the same rights as men. The Equal Rights Amendment was slowly introduced to Congress around 1982. "Equality of rights under the law shall not be abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex." This simple phrase comprised Section 1 of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), first proposed to Congress by the National Women's Party in 1923. Amending the Constitution is not just a simple task. There are two steps to getting it approved by Congress. First, Congress must propose the amendment with a two-thirds majority in both the House and Senate. It must subsequently be ratified by three-quarters of parliaments. “The National Organization of Women (NOW) began a strong push for the ERA in 1970.” In 1890, Wyoming became the first state with women's suffrage. The movement was accelerated by the formation of the National American Wome...... middle of paper ......or anything that men can do just for the fun of it. If women wanted to work as police officers, no one could stop them because of the ERA and that would give them the right to be who they wanted to be when they wanted to be. No one can tell them that they cannot stand up for what is right because of the amendment that gave equal rights to women and men. There were several websites that helped gather information on the topic of "The National Organization for Women and the Fight for the Equal Rights Amendment." These websites have helped gather information on women's and men's rights. A lot was introduced about women's rights and how they became women's rights. It's crazy to think that women didn't have the same freedom as men and now it's 2013 and men and women both have the same freedom. It's good to know that the ERA leaders won and that women got the freedom they earned!
