Today I will talk about the media and women's body image, and how the media could be harming you and your children. Have you ever read a magazine or watched TV and said wow, I wish I looked like her? The media publishes tons of pictures and videos of what the average woman should look like when in reality what the media shows is an unrealistic goal to achieve. If the media only shows a body image or what they would say is "perfect", body image can cause serious problems mentally and physically in a woman's mind and body. One of the serious problems that can occur mentally in a woman's mind is developing low self-esteem and eventually depression. With the media showing images and videos of what they perceive as the perfect body image, they are damaging the way women think about themselves. When women look at these images or videos they see that certain body image and may realize that they don't look like that and soon start setting an unrealistic goal of how they should look. When these women start setting that goal, they put themselves in the position of feeling like a failure for not achieving their goal and with this they start to develop low self-esteem because they can't get what they wanted from what the media shows. Most women don't realize that the average model is underweight and unhealthy, so why would you want to be unhealthy when you're healthy right now? A video called Time Lapsed was discussed on Good Morning America, a global morning news program, Time Lapsed was about a model on a photo shoot and is undergoing a digital makeover making the model perfect over the course of 47 seconds. This shows how unrealistic the media shows a woman's body. Some people might argue that the media that is… middle of paper… the work on eating disorders once said in an interview “it's always a struggle. I felt more confident and protected when I was heavy. Food has always been comforting. These are the many examples of what the media is doing to people who suffer from eating disorders and don't feel satisfied with their appearance, so they harm themselves to achieve such an impossible goal. These ailments have caused death and no one wishes that on anyone. The media constantly displays a body image as perfect and it is an impossible goal to achieve. As you have just read, the media alters every image, this is how the video published on YouTube shows a model posing and then subjected to a total digital makeover making her perfect in the eyes of the media and how this can influence the way a woman think and how they feel about their body turning our minds into our worst disorders, for example anorexia
