Through hard work, Wang Lung is able to grow in stature and wealth. As a devout farmer in Pearl S. Buck's The Good Earth, he holds to strong morals. Even when his fortune fades, he spends his time making sure to prepare what is needed for his land. Throughout his life, Wang Lung worked hard for what he received. Wang Lung's true love is his land, and when the gods turn against him, he works on his land and does all he can for his land. "The fields, though Wang Lung desperately cultivated them... the young stalks of wheat... ceased to grow and lay motionless at first in the sun and eventually shrank and yellowed into a barren crop... He brought them water every day after giving up grain, the heavy wooden buckets were hung on a bamboo pole on his shoulders. This shows how much dedication Wang Lung has for his barren land , Wang Lung continues his hard work by putting everything he has into his land. “But although a furrow grew on his flesh and a callus the size of a bowl formed there, the rain did not fall.”...
