Culture is the way of life of humanity. History and culture play a vital role in the country's national development process. (Vale,1992) Malaysia was formed as a multiracial country where Malays, Chinese and Indians are the three major ethnic groups. So, among the different groups practicing their own different religion and culture of life, the Malay community is very unique. Being a multi-ethnic country, the development of national cultural identity requires more careful and sensitive planning in the cultivation of Malay culture. This planning must summarize the virtuous and noble values in strengthening multi-racials in Malaysia. The nationalistic idea has been common since Malaysia was trying to achieve independence and its spirit became even stronger when Malaysia declared independence in 1957. In order to show Malaysia as a free country from colonialization , the leaders of the time sought to create a symbol to represent the nation. According to Foster (1990), “Architecture is about people and the quality of life”. This statement stated that architecture is an effective way to show Malaysia's national identity as it is able to tell the context of Malaysia and the Malaysian way of life. However, one of the strategies was to modify the facade of the public building so that the local culture and national identity can easily speak. (Wan,2000) In the 1970s, Malaysia was mainly oriented towards achieving economic growth. Although Malaysia's economic and social progress was growing rapidly at that time, it led to economic disproportion between the two largest ethnic groups: Malays and Chinese. It became a tension between Malays and Chinese because the Chinese community benefited more from the national architecture. Due to the over-emphasized Malay culture, it did not get positive responses from other ethnicities. Therefore, it was still considered a period of Malaysianization during the policy period. Nowadays, we can still see that architecture which reflected cultural politics and became an ego in showing Malay culture. Therefore, architecture is used as a landmark of a country as it is able to tell the history and background of a place and the culture of the people living in the area. He traced the real evidence of the country's civilization throughout the ages. In this case, architecture is used to form the national identity as a whole to show Malaysia as a multi-ethnic and multicultural country which makes it famous in the world. Therefore, the assimilation of all races is important for national integration, thus influencing the country's development prospects.
