Only a few empirical studies have examined the factors that influence young adults' perception of legal relationships as a crime. Two studies specifically examining perceptions of unforced sexual relationships among adolescents and adults demonstrate that larger age differences between partners lead to more negative perceptions of older partners (Oudekerk, 2013). Young adults might consider it love and not statutory rape. The article states that those under the age of twenty-five make up the majority of statutory rape perpetrators, yes, we know little about their perceptions of legal relationships.
