When I think back to my high school years, I thought I wrote essays well. But then, upon entering a university environment, my papers were mediocre. In neglecting my past papers, I found that they were disorganized, sloppy, and had poor use of diction. From now on, I will use the tools I learned in English 1100-40 as the basis for future papers I plan to write in college. Following the criteria of organizing ideas so that they flow, influencing the reader with diction and also being creative will help you become an ideal writer. Following the criterion of staying motivated in short and long term goals, taking responsibility for actions and finally the ability to study well will help me become a supreme student. I have always had difficulty writing the introduction of articles. The introduction forms the basis and sets the mood of the entire article. I think it is the most important paragraph of the document. But once I develop the introductory paragraph, I find the rest of the document easier to write. In order to improve myself at writing introductory paragraphs, I just need to get more in touch with my creative side. After the draft, students in the class would bring their papers to the course and meet in groups to peer review them. This would be useful to receive the opinions of our colleagues to help us modify our task. After peer reviewing the draft, the next step in the writing process was editing. Review occurs when we take information and opinions from groups and incorporate them into our documents. Additionally, for editing, you would offer business days to proofread our article before we had to write our final copy. It was extremely helpful for us to have your opinion on our task...halfway through the task...on homework, which was a huge stress reliever. The course also explained how to write the basics of any article, which is significant in becoming a great writer and writing a flawless article. Furthermore, group activities allowed us to get closer to our classmates. However, I feel that some of the activities we did were mediocre and ordinary. But it's hard to say what experience each student received from their high school. Some knew more than others and I was simply more grateful for the education I got in high school. I also didn't like buying books for class when it wasn't a necessity for class. We didn't use the books much and they were relatively expensive. I recommend the course, especially to incoming freshmen. It's a great foundation for legitimate college writing classes. I enjoyed learning from you, Mrs. Penwell.
