The HelpThe book, The Help by Kathryn Stockett, is about a woman named Aibileen who is a black waitress. She is now caring for her seventeenth white child. He works for a woman named Miss Leefolt. Aibileen has never disobeyed an order in her life and never intends to. Her friend Minny is the complete opposite. When he is around his boss, he has to keep himself from constantly bothering him. Skeeter Phelan is different from the rest of the white women. He thinks black people aren't that bad. She decides to write a book about the lives of maids for white women. Otherwise known as Help. She, with the help of Aibileen and Minny, hopes to create a book that will start a revolution in what white people think of black people. Each of the main characters is very different. The first is Aibileen. She is a quiet woman who never disobeys her white woman's orders, even if she doesn't want to. "'So you're going to use the one in the garage now, understand?' I don't look at it. I'm not trying to make trouble, but she made her point.”- (Page 34) Miss Leefolt built a “special” bathroom for her so she wouldn't use the white toilets. The author's reason was to show that Aibileen did what she needed to do to keep her white women happy. Aibileen is also polite to the people she needs to be polite to. Even at his house he is kind to Skeeter. "'Nothing...do you want to add...about that?" 'No ma'am' 'Aibileen, you don't have to call me 'ma'am' not here'”- (Page 169) Minny on the other hand is exactly the opposite. She doesn't care what others think. If it's a white woman who tips her off and she doesn't work for her, then she'll tell her off. “'What makes you think that black people need... middle of the paper... or the next one with the next point of view. For example, when Skeeter was interviewing Minny, Kathryn failed to explain the event three times. It was only explained to her once from one person's point of view. In this case it was Skeeter's. “I'll start with background questions and how to get back to Minny's work.” (Page 192) When Kathryn changes point of view, she changes events. Sometimes there will be a character flashback, but it's not long. Sometimes, when the point of view changes, she attends an event that only that character takes part in. Overall it does a great job of transferring events between the characters' points of view. Overall The Help is an amazing book by Kathryn Stockett. The three characters Skeeter, Aibileen and Minny are all different people. But somehow they manage to become close friends. Or almost.
