This new generation of educators will need to change their approach to teaching to better adapt to the extensive technological resources available to aid student learning. One way to meet the growing demands for educational instruction is to implement a variety of multimedia technology content into the curriculum. Multimedia is defined by the ERIC database (EBSCO) as “the integration of more than one medium into a presentation or instructional module” (2005). The first step in implementing innovative multimedia content in preschool classrooms is to engage the wandering attentions of a large group of young children. One way to achieve this is to combine a variety of technological media such as images, sound, motion, interactivity, and text/words in such a way as to communicate information (Cole, Means, Simkins, & Tavalin, 2002). Images in the form of maps, photographs, drawings, etc. they have the potential to improve student learning by implementing a visual aspect into the teaching method. The text can be in the form of simple one-word expressions or detailed paragraphs packed with information. In preschool classrooms it is most effective to use text at the one-word level so that children can become familiar with the alphabet. This is the first step in building the foundation for recognizing the connection between objects or concepts and written words.
