Soccer practice was exhausting and, honestly, completely miserable. I hated that stupid game and should never have signed up, but now I was stuck on the team for summer training. The worst part was returning home. I didn't live far away but when it was all over I was tired and sweaty and just wanted to take a shower, so when one day my brother's best friend offered me a ride home I obviously said yes. I had known Dustin almost all my life; he had always been kind to me. My brother Landon hung out with him almost every weekend and it helped that Dustin lived right down the street from us. Even though I lived less than five minutes away, once I was in the car I closed my eyes. I immediately fell into a deep sleep and probably could have slept all day. Eventually, I opened my eyes, but not too much. Something was wrong. Looking up hesitantly, I met Dustin's eyes; he was just staring at me. I sat up and noticed the pain echoing through my arms and hands. My wrists felt like they were tied together and were incredibly tight. "Dustin, what's going on?" Dustin was like family, I just didn't understand. I started pulling the ropes hard, but I had to stop because it hurt so much. I was completely panicked now; my breathing was almost as fast as my heart was pounding. What was happening? I tried to pull the ropes again, but they cut my skin. “You always said we should go out sometime without Landon, I thought we could stay at my house for the night and just talk?” “But why am I tied up?” I whimpered. He didn't answer me, it was as if he hadn't even heard me. We pulled into the driveway of his house and he started opening the door. I started to get really scared. "Dustin, I want to go home." Immediately his eyes... in the center of the paper... spoke to me, grabbing my arm and in that instant the knife in my hand pierced his side. Dustin pulled back and the knife fell to the ground with him. I watched Dustin as he sank deeper and deeper into the floor until he lay completely flat. It must have been five minutes or more actually, but it felt like seconds. Landon must have hung up and called the police because I couldn't hear him anymore and the flashing lights were already in the driveway. I watched as the paramedics dragged Dustin into the ambulance. The police kept me away and questioned me while the paramedics ran around shouting back and forth. I looked over and looked directly into Dustin's eyes. He reached towards me, but when he did all I saw was the person who had been on top of me, pinning me down. I looked at the police officer again and without saying a word I left.
