The son's light was fading. I looked around and noticed that my other dog had joined me. He was sitting quietly on the floor, so instead of going to pee I just laid back and relaxed. To my right was a bowl of soup. My mother must have brought it up to my room. She was so kind and thoughtful, but she annoyed the hell out of me. As if my dog understood me, he got out of bed and lay down next to Grant. Those two were inseparable. They were like brothers. Grant was a pit and greyhound mix. He had wonderful brindle fur. Nelson was a laboratory mix of healers. He had very black fur and the softest tail in the world. I started eating my soup. It was very hot, so my mother must have just brought up the topic. I thought it was pretty good. It was my mother's homemade chicken noodles. The noodles were like long strands of hair and the chicken wasn't hard to chew. "Ah, damn it!" I split soup on my legs....
