The Life of Theodore RooseveltDillion OsterEnglish Composition ITheodore Roosevelt was one of the most inspiring men who ever lived. He once declared: “I have always loved the West African proverb: Speak softly and carry a big stick; you'll go far." That's how he ran things in the Oval Office and as New York City police commissioner. Growing up he was a very sickly child, home-schooled and his father was very disappointed in him as a child. Theodore Roosevelt said, “ Whenever you are asked if you can do a job, say, 'Of course I can!' So get busy and figure out how to do it.” (Theodore Roosevelt) This to me shows how dedicated Theodore Roosevelt was to his work ethic and how he strived to become the best he could. Theodore Roosevelt did not have an easy childhood growing up very sick and his father was disappointed that he was not strong and could not stay healthy. Theodore's father said to him: “Theodore, you have the mind but you have no body, and without the help of the body the mind cannot. go as far as it should. I'm giving you the tools, but it's up to you to make your own body. Theodore Roosevelt then responds “I'll make my own body.” This is where it all began for Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt stronger and he didn't stop working at it. He tried to get everything he could out of his body and built a work ethic that followed him to the White House Theodore was running for mayor of New York City and that was it that New York offered him the job of police commissioner. He had a hard time cleaning up the streets of New York. With all the gangsters and mobsters running around he had his hands full.
