I. IntroductionWhen I hear the words "bad foods", I always think of cakes, muffins, ice cream and so on. But there is something that is almost always there, but often hidden. We put it on our french fries, on almost every single protein, and use it when we boil water. Have you guessed what it is? Salt. It is always there, but we may not always know it is there (Farley). It's one of those things that we don't always see, but will affect us in the long run. But why do our parents tell us to “not put so much salt on our food?” Every year, scientists study salt and sodium to see what's really so bad about it and why it's such a big deal to our health. In the case of salt, I think it's definitely the scientists who decide it's bad, but it's the media and the newspapers who give us the news. In a recent study conducted in Great Britain it was shown that salt strongly increases heart attacks, strokes and above all hypertension. So to answer the question, it is harmful because high salt intake can cause so many cardiovascular diseases and conditions. And there's only one good way to stop it: reduce your salt intake (Farley). I think that salt is definitely one of the main substances responsible for increasing hypertension (high blood pressure) and we often don't know how much we are actually consuming.II. Hidden in our foodsWhen you buy a bagel, do you think about how much salt is in it? To be honest, I really don't. The only time I really think about the fact that there is salt in my food, is when I put it on my food. And you probably didn't know that there can be twice as much salt in a blueberry muffin as in a bag of chips? And quoting Thomas A. Farley, a physicist… middle of paper… who did that was a great thing. They have helped reduce high blood pressure and stroke-related deaths and have also shown that salt is actually very dangerous for us. As I mentioned above, there are many consequences of consuming too much sodium or salt. Strokes, heart attacks, kidney failure and especially hypertension can occur if you eat too much salt. Unfortunately, it's difficult to reduce salt, because there is literally salt in almost every single food. I think what we can do as children is remember and be aware of the consequences of eating too much salt, and also to not always put salt on our chips or potatoes. I myself love salt and, as some of you know, I put a lot of salt in my food. However, after writing this essay and doing research on this topic, I realize that I need to reduce my salt intake, for my best in the future..
