Money is the cause of most unethical decisions in business. For example, overcharging customers, underpaying employees, and defrauding shareholders are just some of the unethical actions carried out in companies around the world. Employees need to understand that having ethical company values will create a more positive work environment. Places that are considered honest in the community are more likely to be successful in the long term and are less likely to run into problems over matters that have nothing to do with the business itself. Today, companies operate in a 24-hour media frenzy where everything is a story. When faced with unethical decisions, employees must be able to look to their own leadership and their company's core values. However, in most cases, employees have to look at themselves and decide whether or not they want to be honest people who behave according to the highest company standards (Exploring business, 2014 page 71, 72). Companies can set all kinds of ethical guidelines, but ultimately it's up to the individual to lead an honest day
