Tablet ComputerThe above popularity of Tablet Computers is only one aspect of why they were chosen as the selected hardware for this project. The physical characteristics of a tablet were also a selection factor and were compared to desktop computer and smartphone counterparts. The processing power of tablet PCs is improving significantly and now runs on multi-core CPU (mobile central processing unit) chips, such as Tesco's budget. tablet, Hudl, runs on a 1.5Ghz Quad-Core processor. While its processing power isn't comparable to that of a multi-core CPU found in full-sized desktop computers, it's more than enough to run a lightweight EPOS application. Additionally, tablet PCs contain all the major components of a desktop computer, wrapped into one small package: CPU, display, networking hardware, storage, memory (RAM), and user input (touchscreen). The device's small size makes it suitable for areas where space is at a premium. Tablet PCs are also portable, so the device is not fixed in one location – this can be advantageous in scenarios such as using the tablet as a mobile EPOS system at an event. Or carry out administrative tasks on the EPOS application away from business premises, for example while travelling. Tablets have been preferred to smartphones due to their screen size. Tablets typically have a larger screen size than smartphones, typically 7 inches or more measured diagonally. A larger screen allows you to have a less cluttered user interface or display more information on the screen. 42% of adults aged 65 and over are now online, an OfCom study shows. This is a 9% increase compared to 2012. Presbyopia is a common optical condition that develops naturally with age and describes a person who...... middle of paper ......alaxy Tab 7.0 ”, introduced in September 2010 and runs Android 2.2 (API level 8) but was then upgradeable to 2.3 (API level 9). My application will then run on a minimum API level of 9 and a target level of 10 (the latest version before the release of Android 3.0 Honeycomb) to provide maximum compatibility. Legacy tablets are now few in number and are very likely to have been replaced by newer hardware. However, my goal is to make my question accessible. Hardware replacements are generally expensive to purchase and instead of disposing of old hardware, my application hopes to give users a purpose to reuse it. Design Methodology After researching recent major methodologies used in software design, I decided to adopt an object-oriented design and spiral approach. Why were they chosen? Familiar, already used before. Spiral Applies well to my project.
