We live in a time where society is constantly evolving. Every day brings new elements that impact families as they do their best to raise their children. In today's world, children and families face many problems, along with other obstacles, that will change, shape and test families' ability to provide some of the most basic necessities. Some of the problems presented are controllable and unfortunately some are not. Every problem faced by the family is greatly influenced by predetermined factors in conjunction with the ever-changing economy. Three of the most pressing problems faced by families and children today are poverty, abuse and neglect within the family, and affordable child care. Poverty is one of the main stressors in the family dynamic. Poverty is greatly influenced by economics and combined with educational attainment and socioeconomic status before having children. In today's economy those in poverty are from families where parents have only a high school education, had children earlier (possibly during adolescence), and have been hit hardest by the struggle our economy is in. Poverty within these families influences overall family behavior, parental relationships, and children's social and cognitive development. Parents become consumed with trying to provide for the family, even in terms of the most basic needs. Some of the basic necessities in danger for families living in poverty are: food, clothing, housing and transportation. A family in poverty is more likely to live from check to check and have no room for any type of emergency (e.g. healthcare, car breakdown, accidents). Relationships between parents and spouses can become strained for families in poverty. Stress... half of the paper... a universal solution to solve all the problems we encounter. Families and children facing poverty, child abuse/neglect, and challenges related to affordable child care are not the only ones facing these issues. There are many people who face these problems, but we as educators, future educators, community members and human beings can make a difference in the outcomes of the problems families face by providing support in many forms to help alleviate some of the factors of stress (problems). By educating those who find themselves in poverty due to their educational background, working together to find solutions and support for those who face abuse and neglect, and raising the standards of quality that we as people provide when caring for our children or the children of those around us. Working together will enhance the positive resolution of sin by building the foundation for these families to succeed.
