Business can be learned in many different ways. One of the best ways to learn how to run a business is through experience. Even if that experience is just a simulation, it helps give a new perspective and helps you see how a business might be run in real life. The BizCafe simulation is one such useful tool for gaining knowledge and experience of how a business is run in the real world, rather than just reading about it. This simulation required a group of four or five people to run a simulated bar. The team had to make several decisions together, from how they wanted the café to be run, to the type and quantity of coffee to sell. My team and Express Espresso, overall, worked quite well and I learned a lot from this experience. Express Espresso had many key achievements and some weaknesses. The key result achieved was to be in first place in ten out of thirteen decisions consecutively. It was also rated to have the best atmosphere and customer satisfaction compared to other teams. Another achievement was that Express Espresso was the first coffee shop to get out of debt and have a positive cumulative net income. We also achieved the highest customer satisfaction of 88.7 compared to other teams. There was also a significant increase in sales from 1,684 to 40,776 cups sold over the course of the simulation. However this was much lower than our number one competitor, The International Café, which last decided sold 51,378 cups, 10,602 more than our café. Some of the low points were that coffee ended up in second place for the last decision. Second place was the fault of the management team who did not pay much attention to the competition, mainly The International......middle of paper......performed quite well, as did my team who he handled it and overall I learned many valuable lessons that I can take to the workplace. The simulation experience was useful simply to allow a person to use what they learned in class and apply it to their simulation work. It is helpful for anyone to have some kind of experience in the field they wish to study. This simulation helps people prepare for the trials and tribulations they might face working in groups, but also for what they will get from doing so. It is important to work in a team as most companies expect you to be able to do so. This simulation helps prepare students for working in the real world, whether it's a job or an internship. In any context it is useful to know how to work and communicate well in a group and to know the basics of everything related to managing a business.
