Topic > Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer - 700

The main character's name is Artemis Fowl. He has dark hair and pale skin. He is twelve years old. Her family is very rich and lives in a large house, and Artemis lives with her mother (who has been acting very strangely since Artemis' father died) and her two servants, Butler and Juliet. At the beginning of the book, Artemis is primarily focused on becoming even richer than she already was. After kidnapping a fairy, however, he realized he had something he wanted more than riches. She wanted her mother to return to normalcy, without suffering the loss of her husband. Artemis Fowl was very cruel in the book, she wanted nothing more than fame and money and would do anything to get it. He bribed people to give him information by giving them money. She says: “His plans would have to be much more subtle than usual if they were to escape his mother's attention. But it would be worth it. This means that Artemis would still do bad things, but he was very happy that his mother was back to her old self. When Artemis Fowl discovers that fairies really exist, he decides to try to capture one. He is very cruel to the fairy he captures, whose name is Holly. As time passes, however, he begins to realize that he has been cruel and lets her return to her people, at a cost. (of course) Holly grants him a wish, which he pays for in gold. He could have decided to get more gold, but instead he uses it to make his mother feel better. It changes, in a good way, throughout the book. “Weak Sprite” (p 8) denotative – fragile fairy, connotative pixie – Someone who used to be able to grant wishes, but is now too weak. This word is important because in the beginning of the book, Artemis needs to find a sprite to get information. “Trust is… at the center of the card… you. This makes it third person. The book says, “Artemis touched the table to get attention.” and also “Something hissed above Holly's head, something twinkling in the starlight.” The entire book is in third person, because the story is not from the characters' point of view. The book always says he, she, they and other words like that. It doesn't say I or you. This makes it third person. The book says, “Artemis touched the table to get attention.” and also "Something hissed above Holly's head, something twinkling in the starlight." The entire book is in chronological order, which means that after the first event, all other events will continue in order. There were some flashbacks. They were all very short, though, and were probably just put in to help you understand someone's past or something so you don't get confused about something.
