Shyam Maharjan (SRN 1054677)How climate change has changed agriculture management in Nepal.2. Literature review2.1. Overview of Climate ChangeClimate change is defined as a significant change in the value of a meteorological element (such as temperature or a certain amount of precipitation) during a period of time or periods of a decade (e.g. Maunder 1992, Kim, n.d.). It significantly affects climate-dependent agriculture and crop yields (Kim, 2014). Lybbert (2011) states that climate change will greatly affect agricultural tradition, which varies depending on the location of geographical regions. It not only impacts agricultural productivity, but also livestock and biological changes such as flower bloom, planting time, harvest season, and shifting time for cultivation (Kim, 2014). It degrades the quality of products over time, impacting people's overall socio-economic lives (Kim, 2014). Rice cultivation is completely dependent on summer rainfall, which may soon transition from “dry” to “wet” (Bartlett et al., 2010). According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the average rate of increase in temperate temperature is 0.06°C each year and this could have a serious impact on the cropping system (Sapkota et al., 2010). Bartlett et al (2010) use an observational method to observe temperature variability in the Central Hills region of Nepal.2.2 Impacts of climate change on agricultural productionMalla (2008) argues that the continuous increase in temperature and changing monsoon pattern they decrease production. It also increases soil drought and reduces crop quality (Malla, 2008). Similarly, rice production is vulnerable affected because the production per...... half of the paper ......008.
