Topic > Exploring Piracy Within Systems - 2946

Summary: In this research paper, we explore piracy within systems. As computer science students we believe it is essential to understand all aspects of systems and the role they play in facilitating the transfer of illegal, copywrite and other intellectual property. With extensive research into file sharing, we have found that peer-to-peer file sharing is one of the most common facilitators of illegal data exchange. Peer-to-peer file exchange occurs both physically through the use of USB drives and CDs, and over the Internet, through the use of email, shared files, and torrents. We then looked at existing piracy threats focusing primarily on torrents and implemented laws to help stop notorious piracy sites. During our research we discovered Bram Cohen's innovative programming and his pioneering creation of the BitTorrent protocol. To fully understand the mechanics of this system, let's analyze the system in a step-by-step process to understand the true systems thinking and development that led to the creation of the protocol and understand the reasons for its success. To complete our research we dive into the nature and workings of some of the most popular torrent sites such as Kick Ass Torrents and The Pirate Bay, analyzing the full effect of piracy in a system context. If at any point we didn't understand how something works or what was happening within the system, we would do more research, such as how seeding works. Conclusion Conclusion: Due to the ease with which file sharing can occur, thanks to peer-to-peer file sharing, Internet piracy has increased dramatically. It has also become very difficult for the law to implicate violators and trace the location of the original source as each file contains a history of more than 100,000 users. Torrenting and peer-to-peer file sharing are two amazing and revolutionary systems that help in transferring large data files, which would normally take months to transfer. Unfortunately this innovation has been overused and developed and is often viewed negatively due to the way people use it.
