Although genetically modified foods have not been proven to be categorically dangerous, many consumer groups still oppose them out of fear of future health problems, and the secrecy of highly industrialists certainly is not, helping to calm these fears. The industrialization of agriculture has also impacted entry-level workers in these sectors. Tracie McMillan documents many cases of downright illegal business practices used against workers in these industries. An example of such an unscrupulous practice is: “The problem is, somewhere between the farm and our salaries, the company is changing the number of hours it pays us for” (McMillan, 75). While the company pays on a piece rate basis, instead of paying the worker the minimum wage for the hours worked to make up the difference, the company adjusts the hours so that it appears that they are actually paying the workers the minimum
