When art in the late ancient period was represented by the Jews and Christians in Rome, the result was beautiful paintings, mosaics, sculptures and architecture. What is unique about this era is that the pieces depicted biblical scenes, people and places. During the period of Christian persecution, Christian and Jewish art was sometimes used as a communicator of hidden messages. Many of these works of art were found in the catacombs, which were passageways beneath Rome. Christians and Jews used these passages as safe and secure homes, as well as burial chambers. Since they were also used as burial chambers, they contained art as much as cathedrals and places of worship. These works of art are significant because they are interpretations of events in the Scriptures by people of that era. Art of the Late Antique period usually depicted biblical themes such as spiritual rebirth, creation, and scenes from the four gospels; Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. This fact is also evident in the architecture and reliefs. Art like this helps Christians understand the Bible because it illustrates images and events from the Bible. When you see a Bible story in a picture, it helps to imagine what happened. Our faith may be strong, but sometimes it is inspiring to see these beautiful pieces that show how Christians can be artistic in art as it relates to biblical stories. This art is a clear reflection of the artist's worldview, as well as a testimony to the world that Christianity has never been a fad; it's a personal relationship. These beautiful depictions of biblical history and themes help us understand the development and greatness of Christian art. The life of Jesus was reflected in m... in the center of the card... the soleum is an interesting piece of architecture, it is not as beautiful as its interior. After looking at all the illustrations in the chapter, one can conclude that it is quite interesting and surprising that these artists put so much effort into using so many colors and designs. Rebekah and Eliezer at the well (11-20) illuminated depict a castle, camels with shadows, and people wearing different colored clothing. The mosaics always had beautiful, intricate designs and the architecture was always ornate. These works of art are truly effective communicators of the Christian message and biblical themes.
