Today, millions of new people are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes each year. Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States and causes more deaths than breast cancer and AIDS combined. Most people don't know how deadly this disease is. Weight loss is a primary goal in disease prevention. Therefore, almost every day companies introduce new medicines, pills and diet programs that promise weight loss. These techniques are not always effective and can be extremely expensive. However, there is an old, inexpensive method called “exercise” that has been proven time and time again to reduce and control weight. Exercise is the tip most offered by doctors to prevent diabetes in adulthood. People need to be educated about health and exercise to understand how important it is to lead a healthy lifestyle and prevent diseases like diabetes. Many large companies today display countless advertisements promoting an unhealthy lifestyle. These advertisements have influenced our culture and made the world only care about the pleasures of life, such as eating unhealthy foods, smoking, and drinking excessively. The American Obesity Association said that all of these factors have caused nearly 64% of Americans to be overweight. In fact, the American Heart Association (AHA) equates lack of exercise with smoking, high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels, which are significant risk factors for developing diabetes. However, even just doing physical activity at least three times a week can drastically reduce the consequences that these actions have on our body. Research has shown that exercise is necessary and is the only way to reduce the risk of developing diabetes. The only way to bring society back to good health is to convince inactive people to do something. Something needs to be done and everyone can help in their own way. Encourage others to believe that exercise is the only way that will truly benefit everyone. Benefits that will not only help them for the moment, but for their entire lives.
