Nurse Anesthetists administer anesthesia to patients before and/or during surgery. They monitor and care for patients during and after the operation. Nurse anesthetists are registered nurses, trained to administer anesthesia. There are different work environments they can work in, such as delivery rooms, surgery centers, operating rooms, and dental offices, just to name a few. They meet with patients to obtain and evaluate their medical history. They examine the results of medical tests such as ECGs, electrocardiograms and/or x-rays to obtain relevant information about the patient's well-being. This helps nurse anesthetists better improve anesthesia care plans. Before a procedure they prepare the patient and administer anesthesia. During surgery, they manage patients' breathing using different medical equipment and techniques.
