Although several articles have been published on the structure of work in higher education, I have found his arguments and work generally disappointing (Emery, 2009). One I liked, however, was how Bousquet demonstrated the exploitative nature of the higher education labor system with his analysis of using graduate students as cheap labor to fill one-time teaching positions held by tenured teachers (Bousquet, 2008). With a surplus of graduate and doctoral students, universities reduce costs by being able to hire part-time faculty at low pay and without any benefits (Bousquet, 2008). His analysis was detailed enough to show how business practices have made their way into higher education as has business management theory (Bousquet, 2008). I would have liked it if he had included accounts from graduate students and part-time faculty to get a more personal view of the difficulties individuals face and possible solutions to these
