The Holocaust, one of the worst events in human history. Because of one man's vision, genocide ravaged Europe unabated. The man was Adolf Hitler, an Austrian-born man who fought for the Germans during World War I. After World War II Hitler joined the Nazi Party. After years of dedication to the party he rose through the ranks and became the leader of the Nazi party. After publicizing the party and expanding it, Hitler became a politician and decided to run for public office. He was voted as the new Prime Minister of Germany. He changed the laws so that if the Chancellor were to die, the Prime Minister would become the new Chancellor. Once Hitler became Chancellor, history would be forever changed by his actions. Hitler created laws, called the "Nuremberg Racial Laws", that established barriers for the Jewish people. The laws would have imposed a curfew on all Jews and prevented them from using public transportation. Over time the Nuremberg Race Laws grew, eventually limiting Jews to owning a business and separating them from the rest of the country. They were forced to attend Jewish schools. These actions are very similar to the Jim Crow laws that existed in the United States during the period of segregation. The racial laws created by Hitler expanded to include more people, including the mentally handicapped, physically disabled, and people of color. In 1936 the Summer Olympics ventured to Berlin, Germany, the center of Nazi power. The racial laws were suspended during that two-week period, as if to make the rest of the world understand that Nazi Germany was a fantastic place, the same for everyone. As the world ventured through Berlin, all signs of racism and discrimination were removed to hide the dark truth. They tried to present themselves as a nice friend... middle of paper... possible. Once a camp was out of resources, the killer would abandon it to avoid being killed by the Allied forces, who now have fire in their stomachs to prevent the mass genocide committed by the Nazis. Today we look back on the Holocaust as one of the most horrific acts committed by human beings. One man's vision turned into a painful story of death for over 11 million innocent people. Each of those people was a son, a daughter, a wife, a husband, a mom, a dad of someone they truly loved. It is not physically possible to express in words the true emotion of this period. As members of society we have an obligation to never allow an event like this to happen again. High-ranking members of the Nazi Party were tried and convicted for war crimes committed during this period. Anne's story is just one of 11 million people who have had similar stories and met the same fate.
