Scher's graphic design art has always been outside the box and shook the art industry at the time. Scher's infamous design on the Boston album was his first design to make a significant difference in the art and music industry. Atlantic says in their More Than An Album Cover article "Yet the album has endured: the guitar ship has been repeated on subsequent records and as backdrops on concert stages." The cover encouraged rock artists to approach their album designs differently and gave a new feel to the records that consumers would purchase off the shelves. After parting ways with record labels, Scher began expressing her typography through theater posters. Using extensive, bold typography that gave his art a city feel. Since Paula moved to New York as a young woman, she has acquired much of her style and design from the city. Paula herself states in her interview with Ryan and Tina Essmaker The Great Disconnect “A lot of my work is very architectural; I use all caps text and make it long and thin, powerful and loud. Scher's work is more illustrative than anything else and provokes a strong and entertaining style that uses popular culture to attract society's attention.
