In a perfect world, I would travel the world to gain a deeper understanding of all the cultures there. However, while living on the budget of a new graduate and a new teacher, this simply doesn't seem feasible. As a teacher, I was able to attend seminars and workshops to continue my education on how to work with students from diverse backgrounds. Additionally, I could assign each class a project that asks them to create a poster with images, symbols, or words that describe their culture. I might also ask each student to present their poster in class. All in all, creating this learning life map has made me more aware of my culture and exposed me to the cultures of my classmates.
