How is fast food causing an increase in obesity in the United States? Obesity can be caused by a combination of fast food and the environment people live in today. Fast food contains foods rich in fats, sugars and starches. These ingredients rarely have any nutritional value for the human body. Most foods available in fast food outlets such as McDonald's, Burger King and KFC contain concentrated salt and preservatives to enhance their flavour. Obesity has become the defining aspect of our nation by surrounding people with fast food products. The freedom to choose what you want gives fast food companies the right to provide unhealthy food. Consuming fast food products regularly greatly increases your chances of having health disparities such as coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes, cancer, stroke, hypertension, and osteoarthritis. These negative effects are present with daily fast food consumption. What were the two topics discussed in the documentary Super Size Me? In the documentary film Super Size Me directed by Morgan Spurlock, many issues on the topic of obesity were discussed. Two topics were the rise of obesity and children being targeted as they are an easy subject. The frequent photos and interviews of obese adults and children suggest that America definitely has an obesity problem. In the film Super Size Me (2004) it is stated that America has now become the fattest nation in the world…. Nearly 100 million Americans are overweight or obese today. That's more than 60% of all U.S. adults. Since 1980, the total number of overweight Americans has doubled, with twice as many children overweight and three times as many teenagers overweight. The numbers are still increasing and need... half of the paper... once in a while ginger ale. From the video I learned that it is not good for your body to eat fast food. The money used for fast food will go towards organic food at the market. My behavioral contract is about eating healthier, so I've already changed my eating habits. The film helps me maintain my goal of permanently completing my behavior change contract. Conclusion After watching Super Size Me, the themes were important not only to me but also to society. It was a message to people to stop eating food away from home and realize the effects that were occurring. Additionally, fast food companies target young children. Parents need to be careful about what their children watch and eat. The film helped me with my diet helping me maintain my goal of completing my behavior change contract. I don't want bad effects to happen to my body, so I won't eat food from outside.
