In “The Truth About Stories,” Thomas King, demonstrates the connection between Native storytelling and the authentic world. Examine various themes in the stories such as; oppression, racism, identity and discrimination. It uses creation stories and implicates them in today's world and highlights the issues of racism and identity that Native people have gone through and are going through. The surrounding environment shapes the lives of individuals and a story plays a vital role. The way a story is told has a huge impact on listeners and readers. King uses a sarcastic tone as he recounts current Native stories and his own experiences. It highlights the events and incidents as the government's apology for colonialism, however, the words remain as they are and are not exchanged for actions. King continually warns the reader to take action towards change as people tend to ignore what is happening around them. In the end people give a simple reason why they didn't know about it. Therefore, the author constantly reminds readers that they are now aware of the matter, so they have no reason to be ignorant. King begins with two different creation stories, one of which is Aboriginal and the other of which is Judeo-Christian. The story of the natives begins with a woman called Charm, her twins and animals all cooperating well together without any dilemma. She comes from another planet and is curious about everything she sees. Finally, one day he sticks his head into the dirt and keeps going until he reaches the other end. He has two sons, one of whom created the "sun", the other created "the shadows". When the right-handed boy created “summer”, the left-handed boy created “winter”, and the two continued to build the two……half of the paper……andor the cold war between each other. Even at the macro level the most important issues can occur at the political level. The current example would be 9/11. An accident occurred and many stories were written. The stories themselves led to violation and racism from one group towards another, also created more problems. One group is always oppressed by another, opposed by another, and so on. People act out and rape each other without knowing the story. If such incidents happened there must be a reason which can be deduced through history. It is important to highlight social issues in whatever form you can, whether oral or written. We have history books and oral discourses from the past from which we gain information. However, whatever form is used, the words used to tell the story are more important.
