Many live very hectic lives with strict schedules. Most people have full-time jobs and don't get home until late in the evening. This makes the convenience of fast food more appealing than slaving over the stove after a long day at work. Due to these busy schedules, people do not have time to prepare a healthy meal and in most cases settle for an unhealthy alternative, usually in the form of fast food. They are forced to eat what is readily available as the options presented are limited. Kingsolver says: Even though they may be busy with work and modern life, people around the world still take the time to follow eating paths that bring happiness and health to their families. My family lives in a town where the main restaurant street has a yellow line painted down the middle. (39)This raises the question of why some countries, despite their busy lifestyles, continue to find time to prepare home-cooked meals. Also, why does the US continue to opt for the cheaper option of fast food. We harm ourselves in the future by making these decisions today.
