On November 16, 2013, I attended a choir concert, Autumn Choir Concert. This event took place on the Wheaton College campus in the Edman Chapel at 7:30 pm. The chapel was well lit, with long pews where the audience could sit. The concert began with the audience looking towards a balcony, where the ensemble stood in orderly rows. They watched the conductor, standing on the stage in front of the audience, waiting for their signal. The first composition, "Miserere Mei, Deus", was performed by Gregorio Allegri in 1638. I learned it by reading along with the well-thought-out program that was given. As we, the audience, admired the singers, we were enchanted by the engaging sound. The room was filled with a vibrant melody, where the harmonization and tone color were spectacular. The emotion conveyed throughout the room was one of absorption and joy. During this piece the sopranos hit such high notes that I was amazed. As someone who attends concert choirs, I understand the level of effort and talent needed to hit those notes and stay in tune.
