Recent research conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) showed that more than 64% of the US adult population is overweight (BMI > 25 and 30) (Obesity , 2008). This result scared people about what would happen in the future if people did not change their habits. Excessive accumulation of fat due to lack of physical activity and high calorie intake which often leads to other diseases is known as obesity. Obesity is a growing problem because people consume more calories and are not physically active; this could cause health problems, but people can solve the problem by consuming a healthy diet and exercising regularly, or by consulting a doctor for medications or surgery if other solutions are not effective. People consume too many calories and are not physically active, due to changes in lifestyles and technological progress, over the last 20 years. Both adults and children spend a lot of time watching television, playing video games, doing research or chatting on the computer. These lifestyle changes encourage sedentary behavior. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said their study calculated obesity across the nation. In 2010, “no state had an obesity prevalence lower than 20%” compared to a high of 15% to 19% in 15 to 20 states in 1994 (CDC, 2011). Physical inactivity and high calorie intake from processed foods have made big changes to our health. Nowadays people don't even cycle or walk to go shopping, or at least they don't walk to the nearest bus station to go to school or work. Every year people's physical inactivity increases while our eating habits worsen. Children are also becoming obese at a very…middle of the road…arterial surgery and gastric bypass are the most effective. People cannot lose enough weight simply by having the surgery; they must continue to diet to reach a healthy weight in one to two years. Side effects include nausea and nutritional deficiencies. Women can also have problems during pregnancy due to lack of nutrients, so they need to be more careful. Obesity can become easy to overcome if people are patient and have the willpower to move forward and lose weight to become healthy for themselves and the next generation. Overcoming obesity can take a long time depending on a person's ideal weight compared to their current weight. If people follow these little tips and work towards a healthy lifestyle, the next generation will be healthier and less likely to become obese. All people need to do is work hard and give themselves time to reach their preferred body weight.
