Haiti has faced many difficulties since it was decolonized from France. It started slowly, using its natural resources to try to resurrect itself. In the end all they did was find themselves in further economic deficit and were left with few resources. As conditions worsened in Haiti, education, the economy, and healthcare suffered, but this was just the beginning. In 2010, Haiti experienced a disastrous earthquake, as Haiti was already in debt and did not have the money to help its citizens reorganize after the earthquake. Many countries rallied and tried to help Haiti, but little could be done due to the country's vast deterioration. The money given to Haiti was a great help in the short term, but they quickly exhausted the resources they had been given and were once again left to fend for themselves. This led the country into further decline, and due to the earthquake that destroyed Haiti's infrastructure, the average percentage of improved sanitation facilities used was 17%.
