Gender, what is the exact meaning of this world in society. When people talk about gender in their conversations, it is most likely a way to distinguish whether you are male or female. According to Merriam-Webster, gender is described as the state of being male or female. The importance of the definition offered by Merriam-Webster is the “state of being” part. Anyone in their own culture/society can define themselves as male or female, without any biological influence. Gender issues have become a controversial topic, but how did the history of gender come about? The topic of gender in historical terms could not have begun without women, dissatisfied with their representation in history, who were not. Green and Troup organized their chapter on gender history into 4 different topics, explaining the meaning of gender in history and analyzing problems in some research methods. Even though gender is a big issue, Green and Troup focus on the influence of women in the creation of gender history. . The point underlined in this chapter is that, without women's discontent and their almost zero representation in history, gender history would never have existed, in this case women's history. Before delving into women's history, Green and Troup explained that gender is a set of cultural behaviors established for the sexes in a given society. The definition gives way to how gender is used to explain feminist analysis in the story. Most early historians began researching the lives and social class of women in the past and sometimes based on stories of famous female figures. Historians of Western ideology began to develop a new method of describing past female life. Many lean towards the Marxist side of history, which looks at the different… center of the paper… believes that quantitative history is a great addition to gender history because statistical information will provide empirical evidence on the topic. A useful quantitative method would be a graph on the topic, women's employment and marriage rate during World War II. The graph can provide statistics on the increase of women in factories and the decline of marriage. The statistics will show a clearer cause and effect argument. The history of gender would not be possible without the rise of women and their dogged goal of earning a place in the history books. Early historians developed a simpler perspective, which simply classified all women as similar in class. As historians developed a more critical analysis, they included many social factors to explain the changing status of women. Women created gender history, and now the door is open for research into other gender issues.
