Topic > Medical testing on animals is considered animal cruelty

Research on live animals has been practiced since at least 500 BC Each year over 25 million animals are tested in laboratories. They are used for medical and scientific research. Animals used in research are often subjected to cruel experiments and suffer from pain. During medical testing, less than 2% of human diseases are found in animals, so medical testing on animals is cruel and unnecessary. Medical testing on animals should be illegal because products that pass animal testing end up harming or killing humans in about 61% of cases. Medical testing on animals is considered animal cruelty and is unnecessary. "Many animals are used in scientific and medical research. They are often subjected to cruel testing methods and suffer greatly as a result." (Animal Testing: Cruel and Unnecessary) Opponents of animal testing argue that it is cruel and inhumane to test on animals, that alternative methods available to researchers can replace animal testing, and that animals are so different from humans that Animal research often yields irrelevant results. Innocent animals are tested every year. Some are experimented on and then killed after their use, while others are kept alive and held in captivity. In more than 1,000 laboratories across the country, monkeys are addicted to drugs, cats are deafened and have holes drilled in their skulls, sheep and pigs have their skin burned, and rats have their spinal cords crushed. Small mice are made to develop tumors almost as large as their bodies, kittens are purposely blinded, and rats are made to suffer convulsions. Dogs are intentionally prepped with proven drugs, chimpanzees are infected with debilitating diseases, and rabbits have grotesque devices implanted... middle of paper... heatedly tested, the results are not found to be accurate due to the differences between animals and humans. A study showed that it was not possible to find a treatment for cancer among animals because animals and humans are very different from each other. I think animal testing is unnecessary, and bottom line, animal testing is cruel and unnecessary. Scientists realize that testing drugs on animals is inaccurate and useless. “A growing number of doctors and scientists around the world are highlighting the fact that animal research is totally useless and that its misleading results often prove counterproductive and harmful to human health.” (The Human Victims: Animal-based Medical Research) Medical testing on animals is useless and must be stopped. Animal test results are generally inaccurate and there is no need to test on innocent animals.
