I feel that alternative medicines are disgusting, because you don't know how clean or hygienic the tools or treatments are. Alternative medicine is any treatment that is not part of the traditional medical system, such as someone would learn in nursing school or paramedic training. "Complementary are those used together with conventional medicine. Recent research has disproved the usefulness of many of these therapies." (USA Today) Alternative medicine is a different way of treating an illness, or another type of medicine that works the same way. There are many types of different brand medicines, they work the same way as the brand name. These medicines are the cheapest and work the same as branded medicines. "The question, however, is: Which products work? How do we know they work?" (Washington Post) There are many other types of alternative medications, such as procedures. For example, if a procedure you need is not available in the United States, you can have the same procedure performed in Switzerland. The procedure may not be safe, sterile or hygienic. Newsgroups are always talking about the effectiveness of alternative treatments, but most of this talk is not proven true. Complementary and alternative medicine has become very popular lately. Approximately 40% of adults reported using alternative medicine in their lifetime. Doctors use CAM (complementary and alternative medicine) by combining it with real therapies and calling them “integrative medicine.” Alternative medicine is constantly changing as treatments undergo testing and become mainstream. All alternative therapies and procedures are classified by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM). The agency funds science... middle of paper... and that's not good for the well-being of this country. Studies have shown that around 75% of alternative remedies are not supported by any scientific research. Most remedies or therapies are supported by partial research rather than actual studies. The use of this alternative drug is increasing, although it has been shown that in most cases these treatments have no effect. Many companies claim they can cure the disease, but they only do it for the money. "The use of alternative medicine, although it should be noted that most of these alternative treatments have no proven clinical effect." (Glaucoma) Many people choose to undergo these therapies or procedures because they are cheaper and easier. These procedures and therapies have not been proven to be safe. Many countries do not have the necessary tools to perform these procedures correctly. This is why I am against alternative medicines.
