Most serving officers retire before, if not well before, their fifties. This early retirement means they still have many years of good work left. The article points out that although their knowledge is primarily about working to defend our nation, they still have the attributes needed by managers, but they are simply difficult to teach. The attributes possessed by these men and women are confidence, organizational skills, teamwork and motivation, all of which make good and productive managers.
