Coeducational schools reflect the diversity present in society and promote the fight against sexism. As such, they are progressive because they make it easier for society to forget what ailed it in the first place. On the other hand, Pahlke, Bigler, and Patterson argue that single-sex schools act as a throwback for society as they remind society of its past where only men could access a modest education (265) . Separating female students can serve as a reminder of the painful past and negatively lead to poor academic performance. Furthermore, the continued establishment of single-sex schools could undermine the progress already made.
