The Hip-Hop Nation, written by Touré, is a very interesting and engaging essay. The first thing I noticed was that the essay is written in the first person, which I believe was done to engage the readers and establish a connection between the author and the readers. I feel like it served its purpose very well as I felt very engaged throughout the entire essay. An essay written in the first person feels more personal and allows readers, like me, to truly relate to the content of the essay. I decided that I would try to incorporate that writing style into my essay as well. I previously said that writing in the first person allows the reader to better relate to the essay they are writing, however I couldn't really relate to this essay in the sense that I don't quite understand the author's passion for hip-hop and the hip-hop lifestyle. Personally, I'm more of a soul and Rhythm-and-Blues (R&B) person, so I can't say I belong to the nation in any way. However, I still found the essay really interesting and learned a lot about the topic. the hip-hop lifestyle....
