The Holocaust was a terrible event that occurred from 1933 to 1945. Approximately eleven million people were killed by the Nazis. A genocidal policy was approved by Adolf Hitler after he became the leader of Germany in 1933. His goal was to get rid of all Jews in Europe and those considered on his "undesirable" list. When countries like Italy, Japan, and Austria joined Germany and became the Axis powers, they began to invade and conquer other countries around them in Europe. I believe there are reasons that can explain why we still study the Holocaust today. First, the Holocaust began in 1933, when Hitler became the leader of Germany. Although Hitler was originally Austrian, he was a German soldier during World War I. As a soldier, Hitler had been wounded many times and while he was in hospital, Germany was surrounded.
