He was devastated and his confidence was completely gone. From that day on Charlie felt alone. He let people use him, which led to him not being able to face people. He would never talk about what happened that day. He would keep his feelings repressed inside, which led to the building of all these emotions. He has dealt with this issue on top of raising 3 children on his own. In order to cope with all these emotions over the years, he developed symptoms of DID. Hank was an escape from reality for Charlie, even if he didn't know it. Hank was the personality who did everything Charlie couldn't do. Hank was a confident, loud guy. He said and did everything Charlie should have done over the years. It had been accumulating for many years that the result was an alteration of personality. Hank gained control over Charlie and was able to come and go as he pleased. Charlie had no idea about this Hank other than what others would tell him. Hank on the other hand knew about Charlie. That said, this supports the idea that “the host personality is unaware of other identities”
