Recently in the United States there has been an increase in deaths due to the use of deadly force by police officers. The use of force is inevitable as a police officer, many times your life or the lives of civilians are at risk when it comes to determining what type of force an officer should use. There are many incidents where the police officer has to react within seconds and has to choose between his own life or that of the individual causing the disturbance. When a police officer uses lethal force it has sparked public outrage, sparking protests and creating a scandal for the police officer and the police department. Many do not know when it is appropriate for an officer to use deadly force and what constitutes that, or what happens when the officer does not use the appropriate amount of force needed to control the situation. There have been many changes in police departments across the country to try to reduce the use of deadly force in response to problems that have occurred due to it. Many do not know what deadly force is and when is the appropriate time for the police officer to use it. According to CFR 1047.7 “Deadly force means that force which a reasonable person would consider likely to cause death or serious bodily injury.” This means that deadly force should be used as a last resort when the police officer fails to resolve the situation. In order to use Deadly Force it must only be justified if all lesser means have failed or cannot be reasonably employed. A protective police officer is authorized to use deadly force only when one of five circumstances exists. The first circumstance is "Legitimate defense, Serious crimes against the person, Nuclear weapon... in the middle of paper... with the public" (When policemen kill). Bodycams would capture the moment officers use force, protect the officer from legal action but could also be used as evidence against him. There is a lot of controversy arising from bodycam use, many of which involve whether the officer can pause or stop the recording or whether he can edit the recording so it doesn't look bad to the public. The use of deadly force by police officers has increased across the country. , this caused public outrage as people called for changes in police departments across the United States. Many citizens don't know what a police officer thinks, they are risking their lives to protect the citizens around them. In order for a police officer to use deadly force, many factors are required for the officer to use deadly force.
