Crooks' flaws were that he was an African American and had back problems, the people on the ranch wanted nothing to do with him, so he was forced to live in a barn away from others. Candy's impairment was that she had no right hand, which made it difficult to work on the ranch. Finally, Curley's wife's handicap was that she wanted the wrong kind of attention from other men besides her husband, this always caused problems between Curley and the other men on the ranch. Of course, these characters aren't the only ones in the book who have shortcomings.
