“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all that we now know and understand, while imagination encompasses the entire world and all there will ever be to know and understand.” –Albert EinsteinThe power of imagination can be described as invincible. With the use of imagination one can achieve undefined triumphs and create a powerful new world. In the book Life of Pi, by Yann Martel, a blossoming young boy named Pi Patel begins to develop a wonderful mind that expands his knowledge, the true meaning of independence, and the value of life. His imagination is what allows him to face and overcome his suffering. The role of his imagination and his stories is extremely significant, in the sense that these tales are completely irrelevant to his current situation. Forcing him not to feel alone, he creates a solution by using his imaginative trait as a distraction from reality. Pi Patel is a sixteen-year-old boy whose imagination can be described to such an extent that he can actually believe in it. Imagination is of great importance and is a primary, positive quality that Pi possessed. Religiously speaking, Pi is a very proud Hindu and, although he lacks nothing, he wants more. As he is introduced to one religion after another, he learns the importance of storytelling and at the same time becomes aware of wording things differently even if the moral of the story is the same everywhere. Being born a Hindu, Pi once heard the story of Christianity and gained the desire to become one. In response to Pi's request, the priest says: “You already are, Piscine, in your heart. Anyone who encounters Christ in good faith is a Christian. Here in Munnar you met Christ." (Page 63) Pi began to think that he himself is a Christian and will practice the faith. When b...... in the center of the card... takes priority in his mind rather than trying to figure out other methods of survival. That said, towards the end of the novel, recounting and detailing these random events was his method of survival. Even though they were fake, it was what distracted Pi from reality and was also a great pastime for him. Life of Pi is an excellent and well-written novel by Yann Martel and expresses the idea of imagination. With this we can achieve many things, such as survival, as shown by Pi who did just that and turned out to be perfectly fine. Everyone has different ways of dealing with things in their life, but whatever it is; the goal is to distract yourself from reality. Pi is a boy who has experienced many hardships and suffering in a realistic way, but he has also experienced many wild and unrealistic events in an imaginative way and this is what ultimately allowed him to survive..
