Over the past four years I have had the pleasure of growing as a person at Fredonia State University. I am honored to have been selected as a candidate for a student marshal position and it is with great humility that I write this essay. I worked hard and my contributions to the school shaped who I became. I have provided a humble, hard-working role model to my peers throughout my academic pursuits, athletic performances, and planning community service events. Playing for the Fredonia volleyball team allowed me to be a part of something that is bigger than myself. Every day I had the ability to improve as an athlete and leader to give back to Fredonia. From the first day of preseason my freshman year, I chose hard work over complacency and fought to represent SUNY at Fredonia as best I could. Both on and off the field, I knew I was not just a Fredonia student, but an athlete who should not bring any negative attention to the school. I hosted many recruits for the team and my coach gave me most of them, saying I was someone who would be a positive role model for students and parents to meet. Many of these recruits chose Fredonia and said I was one of the reasons they liked this school so much. I have put in many hours to become as strong as possible and believe that I will leave an indelible mark on the volleyball program. During my senior season, I was very excited about breaking the total assist record for Fredonia volleyball. The record was broken under my name, yet it's a statistic that my teammates helped me earn. Being a starter since my freshman year and floor captain since my sophomore year has allowed me to improve my leadership skills... mid-paper......p to the success of a strong educational program and volleyball program since from the beginning. My leadership, volleyball performance, and community service have contributed to the school and I believe I should be given the honor of becoming a student marshal. In my years at Fredonia, it wasn't about recognition, but more about working hard and never settling for less than my best. I shared the excitement with others about their accomplishments and would like to congratulate all of the students who received the opportunity to also become a student marshal. I hope that with the contribution I have made Fredonia has become a better place. I firmly believe in leading by example and I think I have given Fredonia students a great role model to look up to through hard work, leadership and humility. I am honored to be considered for this role.
