Karenga provides possible theories on Black on Black violence such as; Post-traumatic slave syndrome and psychopathic personality. Posttraumatic slavery disorder can be defined as “the legacy of hopelessness, self-hatred, hopelessness, and self-destruction resulting from the Holocaust of slavery” (Karenga, 2010). Psychotic personality is defined as “the near absence of ethical or moral development and an almost total disregard for appropriate models of behavior” (Karenga, 2010). These descriptions can be seen in African American society. One of the effects on the psychopathic personality of living in a society rooted in white supremacy is that blacks, in many scholarly theses, are defined as powerless and hopeless, many speak of self-hatred, desperation and self-destruction (Karenga, 2010). . Some of the effects are black on black violence that is seen in crime in general. It is seen in the relationships between black people and the environment in which they live. The effects of the psychopathic personality can be seen in types of behavior such as anger, oppression, and submission. Dr. Bobby Wright lists some keys to understanding the Psychopathic Personality (Karenga, 2010). The first key to understanding the Psychopathic Personality is to understand that Whites have created many distractions from reality that have influenced the consciousness of Blacks. (Karenga, 2010). Dr. Wright provides a definition to clarify why blacks view whites as psychopaths; states that psychopaths are “one who is constantly in conflict with others and incapable of feeling guilt, completely selfish and callous and has complete disregard for the rights of others” (Karenga, 2010).
