INTRODUCTION Understanding animal behavior can provide information to wildlife and conservation managers as they seek to manage biodiversity. Conservation behavior is a relatively new interdisciplinary field that uses animal behavior to help solve wildlife conservation problems. Using theoretical and methodological information from various fields of biology, ecology and animal behavior, biologists attempt to enrich and preserve biodiversity. The usefulness of this new discipline in advancing real-life conservation issues is often a matter of debate, with some scientists arguing that the importance of animal behavior in conservation practices is overblown. Understanding conservation behavior is generally used to solve conservation problems for a single species. Biologists, who understand animal behavior as applied to conservation, use a variety of approaches that can provide information to effectively manage a single species. It is important to note that many countries have environmental programs in place that focus only on individual species. Tourism based on wild animals located in remote wilderness areas and natural parks is one of the fastest growing sectors of the tourism industry. This rapid growth in tourism is impacting wildlife around the world. These impacts are continuous and lead to rapid human modification in natural environments, increasing interaction between humans and wildlife. While studying behavioral responses to human disturbances is not generally the preferred way to determine whether a species feels threatened by human presence, it can provide insight into the mechanisms underlying human-animal interaction by evaluating them from an anti-predator perspective. disturbance hypothesis… half of the paper… smaller groups or sparse vegetation and steep terrain reduced the dilution effect. This research required little input from researchers to determine how habitat quality varied from day to day with tourist presence. This study provided valuable information for conservation managers to decide when and where to allow tourist access. One strong suggestion was to limit human access to a prime foraging location where ibex could remain undisturbed while foraging. My final thought is that numerous studies have indicated that behavior is relevant to conservation and that conservation behavior can be used to promote and preserve biodiversity. This article clearly demonstrates the importance of understanding behavior in finding a balance between tourism and conservation. The inclusion of animal behavior in conservation programs should not be a matter of debate.
