Topic > Jahiliyya in the pre-Islamic world - 1392

A verse of the Quran states: “When it is said to them: “Follow what Allah has revealed: “They say: “No! We will follow the ways of our fathers. What! Even though their fathers lacked wisdom and guidance?” (Surah al-Baqarah, Quran, 2:170). This verse suggests that the people of the Jahiliyya period blindly followed their ancestors. They did not take the time to question the actions of those before them, which is why they are considered ignorant. Allah encourages people to seek knowledge so that they will not be classified as the uneducated. Allah emphasizes the importance of educating us with useful information, which will benefit us in the world and prepare us for the Hereafter. A great example is the first verse of the revealed Quran which states, “Read!” Allah wants humanity to continuously seek knowledge to be well informed about our surroundings. In Islam, knowledge is very valuable and can distinguish between an ignorant individual and a well-educated one. When the Quran was gradually revealed to Prophet Muhammad (may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), those living in the age of darkness felt a sense of relief. When Islam became the way of life for many, they treasured what they had lost over a long period of time. Frankly, they knew they were ignorant and neglecting the ideal way of doing it
