In our nation today, we the citizens of the United States of America have been affected by increasing economic and social problems. Homelessness is one of the major problems that arose centuries ago and is still in effect today. Being homeless simply means not having a permanent, stable, and safe place to rest at night. The article, “The Future of Homelessness,” primarily discusses how homelessness has existed for many decades and looks like it will exist for many more. The author states that “the problem of homelessness is no longer considered an emergency” (29). MeaningThis means that the "poor", as society would call them, is not an important issue requiring the attention of the government and other higher officials. Most of the homeless population lives in abandoned houses, under bridges, on sidewalks and in parks. For the homeless, wherever they can lay their head is “home.” The government and some disinterested citizens tend to look down on the homeless and dehumanize them as if they are not people. In many cases, when some homeless people try to ask for help, they are often ignored or told no. civilians should show compassion and help them instead of despising them and treating them as if they were animals. People spent their money on useless things like expensive cars, clothes, and jewelry. Citizens should take the time to donate time and money to help those in need. The nation is plagued by rising job losses, and rising gas prices would be a major factor leading to unexpected poverty. These factors could be the reasons why the government and citizens choose not to help the homeless because they have difficulty in providing for themselves, ... middle of paper ... people, you can say that they are bound by melancholy. I wish you could help them in any way you can, but the best thing a single person can do is offer them a little change. You can see the glorious look on their faces when they receive just a few cents. Transiting homeless people are more grateful and appreciate the little things while a non-homeless person has to do everything. While homeless people focus on basic needs like where they will sleep or how they will eat their next meal, we working class citizens focus on how much “stuff” we don't have. If more energy were invested in helping our social, economic and environmental issues, the world would become a strong and successful nation. Instead people focus only on themselves and their needs. If we all came together and were united, the world would be a much better place.
