When established by law in 1935, the Colorado State Patrol was created to “…promote safety, protect human life, and preserve the highways of this state through courteous and rigorous enforcement of the laws and regulations of this State relating to highways and traffic on such highways” (CRS 24-33.5-201). Originally called the “Courtesy Patrol,” over the past 76 years the Colorado State Patrol has evolved into a comprehensive and complex law enforcement agency without forgetting its original mission. Through dedication to its members, both past and present, distinguished professional standards and industry-leading technical expertise, the Colorado State Patrol has remained true to its traditions while addressing the ever-changing challenges of law enforcement. The mission of the Colorado State Patrol is to ensure a safe and secure environment for all people by utilizing the strengths of our members to provide professional law enforcement services that reflect our core values of honor, duty and respect. To truly understand how the Patrol intends to live up to its mission, you also need to know the Patrol's vision. As listed on the Patrol's website, the Patrol's vision is: “Through our unwavering professionalism and loyal adherence to our core values, the Colorado State Patrol will be a nationally recognized leader in public safety. As an agency bound by our principles of character, integrity, judgment, loyalty, courtesy, honor, and knowledge, we will advance our profession by safeguarding life and protecting property throughout Colorado" (CSP, 2011). The Seven Principles of the Badge continue to guide our actions and policies. Moving forward, while remembering the past, is a challenge that the Patrol takes seriously. As a progressive... half of the paper... s workforce dedicated to their profession and committed to continually improving. Works Cited Aamodt, MG (2010).
